Consultation for Revised Pipeline Route - April 2010

Over the past few months, Shell E&P Ireland Limited (SEPIL) has been working, with its consultants RPS, on addressing matters raised by An Bord Pleanála in its letter of November 2, 2009, in respect of SEPIL’s application for the modified Corrib onshore pipeline.  In that letter, An Bord Pleanála sought further information from SEPIL in respect of the application and invited the company to modify a section of the pipeline route away from Rossport and into Sruwaddacon Bay.

A response to this request for further information will be submitted to An Bord Pleanála in May of this year. This will include the preparation and submission of a revised Corrib onshore pipeline Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

While SEPIL stands over the safety of the pipeline design, as proposed in its application of February 2009, it is committed to positively addressing the matters raised by An Bord Pleanála in its November letter. To that end, SEPIL is studying and assessing the potential route options within Sruwaddacon Bay, as well as the possible construction methodologies for the portion of the pipeline through the bay.

SEPIL wishes to seek the views of the community on these matters and to respond to any queries and concerns individuals and groups may have in relation to them.  Over the course of the next month, SEPIL and RPS staff will be conducting face-to-face and small group meetings within the community and will be circulating further information.
